Dominik Travis Stevens
Dominik Travis Stevens was born on January 23 at 10:17 pm. He weighed in at 9 lbs. 10 oz. Measured 21.5 inches.
The day started out simple enough. We were scheduled to be induced at 8:00 am that Monday morning. We went to the Hospital at 7:00 am. They started the Pitocin at around 8. Then the contractions began. It was truly painful for me to sit there and watch Heather go through that and me not be able to do anything about it.
Finally, at around 1 pm Heather decided to get the epideral. After that she finally was feeling a little better. Things at that moment seemed to be going normal.
A little while later, actually a few hours later, we had some friends come to visit us, Denean, Charles, Hailey, Dick, and Barbara. This was around 9 pm. After they had been there for a while Heather all of a sudden began to have a lot of pain in her back.
Finally, after what seemed an enternity the nurse came in and we told her all about how the pain had come and how intense it actually was.
She started to look at the printout of the baby's vital signs and she went stark white, like a ghost.
She asked if everyone could please step outside and at that moment the other four nurses on call came running into the rum trying to stop the contractions. One of them was heard saying that the "baby is not sustaining birth" the babies heart beat had stopped. They administered a shot to Heather to counter act the effects of the Pitocin and to stop the contractions all together.
Then after everything had calmed down the doctor told us that baby Dominik was wanting to come out now but that Heather's cervix had only dilated to a 7. He told us that we could try the Pitocin again and hope for the best, or we could have a "C" section and go and get the baby and have a birthday then and now.
After a few excruciating minutes Heather and I decided that we must do what is best for the baby and not put him through that again and so we went to the Surgery room and something like 10 or 15 minutes later little Dominik was born.
What an amazing experience. There are not words to describe the emotions felt that day and night.
